Before World War I the exchange rate on US to German currency was 1:4.2, which is to say $1 US = $4.2 German.

After World War I the exchange rate was 1:25,000,000,000.

Yes, you read that right, though that's the approximation.

$1 US was about $25 billion German Marcs.
